I was voicing Plan Canada’s podcasts, and now I edit and produce them.  This is the first one, about malaria in Sierra Leone.  The next podcast will be about the Girls Rights program, the one I’m hosting with the 411 Initiative for Change.

Sistahs Concert

September 28th, 2009 | Category: Hosting, NEW GIG!

Okay I know it’s late but I really should tell you.  I hosted the Sistahs Concert this summer on Sunday August 9, 2009.  It. Was. AMAAAAAZING.  I don’t like to do a lot of gushing, but check this paragraph from the Young Centre for the Performing Arts website:

Eight of Canada’s most powerful, most prominent, and most loved Black female vocalists will come together on the same stage, for two extraordinary concerts on one day.  Don’t miss Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, Kellylee Evans, Ada Lee, Divine Brown, Toya Alexis, Alana Bridgewater and Shakura S’aida in a show guaranteed to blow the roof off! The Sistahs Concert is a coming-together of generations of Canadian talent, and a celebration of these women as performers, interpreters and songwriters. Musical Directed by Young Centre Resident Artist Andrew Craig, the programme includes solos and multi-generational duets, and culminates in awe-inspiring group numbers.

I can’t even tell you how blessed I felt!  Here are some performances from the night taped by audience members:

Ada Lee and Kellylee Evans

Backstage and at rehearsal there was a whole lot of irreverent yakking, hugs and even tears. Again, I was blessed to be part of the group. And the director Andrew Craig? He is THE MAN.
